Nicolien Sauerbreij wins gold at Vancouver Olympics
The Bulldog congratulates Nicolien with winning the gold medal. Visiting Silver Star Mountain does deliver results.
"Today I showed you can produce good snowboarders from Holland," Sauerbreij said. Avoiding the series of potholes that developed as rider after rider tried to navigate the tricky and constantly changing course, Sauerbreij overcame a .02-second deficit to Russia's Ekaterina Ilyukhina in the second heat to win by .23. Marion Kreiner of Austria took the bronze.
"In the Winter Olympics we are known for our skating competition," said Henk Gemser, a member of the Netherlands Olympic delegation. "It was never possible for us to win in anything other than speedskating. Nicolien has changed this."
